What’s Going on With My Shuddering BMW X7?

If you are a BMW X7 owner in California, you may have experienced a shuddering in the vehicle when driving uphill, around corners, and generally while driving at slower speeds. A defective transfer case may be the culprit, and The Kalfayan Law Firm, APC, may be able to help you find legal recourse. What Is Causing This Shudder?
Vehicles should not shudder if everything is working right. It is a frightening experience to be driving down the road and start to feel that your vehicle could come apart at any moment. Our research has identified a defective transfer case as the possible source of BMW X7 shudder. The transfer case is a vehicle component that transfers power from the transmission to the wheels via the front or rear axles depending on whether the vehicle is front-wheel drive or rear-wheel drive or, in the case of all-wheel drive, to all four wheels equally and simultaneously. The BMW X7 is all-wheel drive (AWD), regardless of which of the three engine options the vehicle comes equipped with.
BMW X7 drivers have also reported other issues that are likely related to the transfer case defect, including leaking fluid, grinding and other noises, trouble shifting gears, increased tire tread wear, and slipping gears during vehicle operation.
Vehicle shudder has been known to occur in other vehicles besides the luxury BMW X7, and the culprit is not always a defective transfer case or even a vehicle defect at all. A fluid leak, failure to regularly maintain the vehicle, or even normal wear and tear can all result in a shudder similar to what BMW X7 owners and lessees are experiencing. It’s important to get your vehicle checked out by a competent mechanic who can diagnose the issue and repair it if the problem is caused by something other than a manufacturer’s defect.
Can I Still Drive My Car?
We do not recommend that you continue driving your BMW X7 until you have seen a mechanic. Even if you do not see any warning lights such as a check engine light, vehicle shudder could be a sign of a serious problem that should be addressed as soon as possible. Continuing to drive could exacerbate the problem and inflict serious damage on the transmission, axles or drive shaft, generating the need for incredibly expensive repairs.
Legal Recourse May Be Available to California BMW X7 Drivers
Kalfayan Law Firm is investigating this issue and the potential for relief through a consumer class action lawsuit. We understand that you could be forced to pay significant costs to repair this defect, depending on whether your vehicle is still under warranty and what that manufacturer’s original or extended warranty covers. Legal damages can exceed the costs of repairs and include diminution in value and incidental costs associated with living with a defective vehicle until it can be safely and adequately repaired.
